My advise is...

What I want to advise a new student is that don’t worry about speaking English and try to speak English more and more. As we know, we came here to learn English. We don’t need to concern about making some mistake. I think this advice is also necessary to me, because I’ll take a course on this summer semester. So, I’ll try to participate more actively in the class. Although it is not easy to me, I’ll do my best.

What would you like to get for your next birthday?

I want to get anything for my next birthday present. I think whatever I get for a present, it doesn’t matter to me. Most important thing is when someone prepares something for me, someone thinks me in that time. That’s enough for me. If I receive something with card, it will be better to me. Just ‘Happy birthday’ is good, the message written by hands would be better. So, whatever I receive for my next birthday present, thought of me is the best present for me.

Internet

In my opinion, the internet has been the best invention in my lifetime. Before the internet is invented, people wrote a letter and sent it. Also, if we wanted to know some information, we had to go to the library and read books. Now, we can send the e-mail using internet. And we can find information easily through some websites such as Google and Yahoo. It’s very convenient. If the internet wasn’t invented, maybe I couldn’t come here and listen to IIEP classes. Most of all, without internet, I couldn’t post this paragraph in this blog.

Lake Macbride.

I want to go to Lake Macbride with my friend who is going to come to Iowa City. Actually, I haven't been there, but I heard a lot of things about there through people. One thing is in spring and fall, the view is beautiful. Second, it is good to take a rest. The last one is we can ride a boat there. Therefore, I want to go there especially with my friend.

Where is the best place you have visited in the US?

　The best place I have visited in the US is New York. I visited there in this spring break, just a few days ago. In New York, there are many good places which I like. The central park is very good place to me. In the park, many people walked with their dogs. It looks very comfortable and happy. Also, The MoMa (Museum of modern art) is very good place. It exhibits many good modern arts. If you are interested in art, I suggest you go to MoMa. In New York, There are many stores for shopping. Soho and 5th avenue are interesting place for shopping. Finally, musical is very impressive to me. I saw “Mamma-Mia”, it is very exciting. In New York, there are many interesting things, so I want you to go there for one time.

My favorite movie genre

　My favorite movie genre is musical. There are several reasons, why I like that. First, actors usually sing a song instead of telling words. In Hairspray, actors express their thought by a song which has tone and rhythm. They make me excited. Second, actors really sing a song on their own voice. They may not be professional singers, but they sing sweetly in the movie. In Moulin Rouge, Nicole kidman and Ewan McGregor sing together. Their song is very beautiful, so I like it. Finally, they are dancing with songs. In Chicago, actors are dancing like dancers. It’s very attractive. Whenever I see the musical movies, I think as if I would see one of the real musical which is made very well. It’s very exciting and fun. So I like the musical movie.

You can do it!

　‘You can do it’ this is the best advice I have ever received. When I had to do something which I never had done, I tended to be afraid of doing it. That made me have passive attitude. Whenever I hesitate, someone who knows me well say to me ‘You can do it’. This advice gives courage to me. I feel better and more comfortable. And now, whenever I do something, I say to me, ‘It is okay. I can do it. Don’t be afraid’. It is very good advice and encouragement for me.

be famous..

　Actually, I don't want to be famous. There are some reasons. First, I don't want people to talk about me. Whether it is good or not, I don't like people say my life. Second, I don't like someone interfere in my life. If I am famous, I can't do well whatever I want. Maybe, someone will say to me, you can't do that or you would better do that. That makes me stressful. I don't want to be like that. Third, I think, if I satisfied my own life, it is more important than being famous. I will do my best, and then I will achieve my goal, that is most worth in my life. Although people don't know well about me, it doesn't matter to me. Because I know I did my best.

My Best Friend

　When I had a problem, I used to talk with my friend, Jayoung. Jayoung and I met at the university. We listened almost same lectures and traveled in Europe and Japan when we were undergraduated. It made us closer and better known to each other. We have same taste in many things and similar character. When we were students, we talked about our lives in university and worried about the future. And we said that I believe you can do that, and it is helpful to each other. After graduated, we talked about our lives of work and blamed some co-workers and bosses. And we said you had better be patient. About 10 years later, we will talk about our marriage or family, maybe. It must be fun. And then, maybe we'll miss our university lives. Jayoung and I have many good memories. And I believe we'll be a good friend forever.

My Favorite book is...

　The title of my favorite book is " Mercellin Caillou" by Jean Jacques Sempe. The story is that 'Mercellin Caillou' and his friend overcome their complex and live with confidence. This book is funny so I read it easily and enjoyed the story. Most of all, I like this book because it has many illustrations which are drawn by the author. I like his illustrations. It has water color paintings and drawings. These are so pretty. Whenever I see this book, I feel comfortable. If you'd like to read books with illustrations, I suggest Jean Jacques Sempe's books.

I'm soyoung from South Korea. And I'm 24 years old.

I graduated the university in 2006. My major is Clothing, and my minor is Business Administration. I had worked at Apparel company as designer about 2 years, before I came here. Design is very exciting job, but I want to experience other part of fashion which requires English communication. So I want to learn English more, and I chose this program.

I like watching something. I like reading fashion magazines, appreciating pictures at gallery, watching the musical and the movie. These experiences are interesting and useful for me.

I hope to have good memories with everyone in my class, and I'll do my best to accomplish my goal.
